Here is some Important things to know about Co-op or Co-operative Education for Every Students applying for Co-op Jobs

What Are The Advantages Of Co-op?
Co-op gives you practical work experience that relates to your program of study and helps you develop your skills while in school. As a co-op student, you will alternate between semesters in
class and time in the field with an employer. You will have the opportunity to earn while you learn. A paid co-op work term allows you to explore future career options and gives you the competitive advantage in the job market after graduation. Employers consider co-op an excellent way to attract and assess future employees. Many of our co-op students are hired full-time by their employer after graduation.
A Co-op Advisor from your college or university will work with you to make your co-op work experience meaningful. We work with a large pool of employers in various sectors. You will learn the skills necessary to secure a
suitable opportunity and be successful on your work term.

Here are just some of the Essential Employability Questions that you may seek answers during your search for co-op work term:

What Can You Do to Find A Co-op Work Term?

Sample Co-Op Cover Letter for Students Applying for Work Term

Co-op Advisors at your college will  work closely with a wide variety of companies with which they have built relationships in order to provide excellent opportunities to students. Students are not guaranteed a work term; therefore, the responsibility remains with co-op students to utilize both the jobs posted on job boards and the job search skills learned in the Employment Pre-placement course to secure a work term.

What are Responsibilities of Co-op Advisors ?
• Provide in-class instruction and guidance to prepare you for interviews, and help you understand workplace etiquette and the performance expectations of the workplace.
• Seek out meaningful opportunities and obtain jobs aligned with your program of study.
• Provide individual advising and assistance, if necessary.
• Visit students on the job and be available on campus to discuss any of your questions and concerns.

What Is A Work Term?
A co-op work term is typically expected to provide four months (16 weeks) of full-time, paid employment during which the student will be completing work related to their field of study and be
directed and supervised by the employer.

Can I Do An Unpaid Work Term?
The Co-op department tries to minimize the amount of unpaid co-op positions unless they present a unique opportunity for learning and career development. However, if a student obtains an unpaid work term related to their field of study, through  their own job search, it will be accepted for credit provided other expectations for a co-op work term are met. An unpaid work term also
requires both the student and employer to sign workplace accident insurance coverage documents.

What Are The Conditions For Finding A Work Term?
All students are encouraged to discuss any questions and concerns about the job postings with a Co-op Advisor before the job application deadline or immediately after the interview.

How Can I Successfully Remain In The Co-op Program?
As a co-op student, you have already completed the requirements to enter the co-op program and have successfully completed your first work term. However, there are additional requirements that you must meet in order to remain in the program, continue with subsequent work terms and graduate with the co-op diploma.
